CARDIOLOGY

This is an album review I did for one of my favorite bands, Good Charlotte. I submitted this review to a magazine publisher,  hopefully it gets published.

GOOD CHARLOTTE IS BACK AND OPENS THEIR HEARTS TO THE WHOLE WORLD.

GOOD CHARLOTTE, YOUNG AND THE HOPELESS, THE CHRONICLES OF LIFE AND DEATH, GOOD MORNING REVIVAL AND NOW….CARDIOLOGY, THE LATEST OFFERING FROM THE BAND GOOD CHARLOTTE. ONE OF THE PIONEER BANDS OF THE POP-PUNK SCENE BACK IN THE EARLY 2000s, I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO SEE THEM LIVE WHEN PULP BOUGHT THEM OVER BACK IN 2005. FIVE YEARS AFTER, THE BOYS OF GOOD CHARLOTTE ARE BACK AND RELEASES A BRAND NEW ALBUM WHICH SEES THEM RETURNING TO THEIR POP-PUNK ROOTS.

CARDIOLOGY, AS WHAT THE WORD SUGGESTS, IS AN ALBUM ALL ABOUT HEART. WE’VE HEARD A COUPLE OF BANDS SAY EACH TIME THEY RELEASE AN ALBUM, THAT IT’S THE MOST HONEST THEY’VE EVER WRITTEN, THAT IT’S THE ONE CLOSEST TO THEIR HEART, AS CLICHÉ AS IT MAY SOUND, THIS ALBUM IS A TESTAMENT TO ALL OF THAT. IF YOU’VE BEEN A FAN OF GOOD CHARLOTTE OVER THE YEARS YOU CAN SAY THAT ALL OF THEIR SONGS ARE SONGS THAT YOU CAN EASILY RELATE TO, AN ANTHEM TO ANYONE’S LIFE AND THIS ALBUM IS NO DIFFERENT. OF COURSE, AS THE BAND GREW OLDER, THEIR LYRICS AND THEIR MUSIC MATURED AS WELL.

CARDIOLOGY OFFERS SONGS THAT ANYONE OF US CAN RELATE TO, LIKE THE TRACK COUNTING THE DAYS TELLS HOW MOST OF US LIVE IN A ROUTINE, “ WAKE UP, GO TO WORK,COME HOME ITS NOT WORKING, WE’VE BEEN LIVING OUR WHOLE LIVES ON A SYSTEM THAT IS BROKEN”. MY FAVORITE TRACK IN THE ALBUM, LET THE MUSIC PLAY, “THERE’S A SONG THAT YOU CAN FIND, IN EVERY MOMENT OF YOUR LIFE, IN EVERY TEAR YOU’VE CRIED, IN EVERY PAINFUL LAST GOODBYE, SO WHEN THE SYSTEM BREAKS YOU DOWN,JUST LISTEN TO THE SOUND”. A FATHER’S LOVE FOR HER DAUGHTER,  HARLOW’S SONG, THE MOST EMOTIONAL SONG IN THE ALBUM WHERE JOEL TELLS OF HIS LOVE FOR HIS DAUGTHER TO THE WHOLE WORLD.  TRACKS LIKE LIKE IT’S HER BIRTHDAY, SILVER SCREEN ROMANCE,LAST NIGHT, SEX ON THE RADIO JUST SIMPLY MAKES YOU WANT TO JUMP AND DANCE AROUND, A FEELING THAT POP-PUNK BRINGS.

IM NOT AN EXPERT TO SAY WHICH MUSIC YOU SHOULD LISTEN TO OR NOT, HECK, I DON’T EVEN KNOW HOW TO PLAY A MUSICAL INSTRUMENT.  IN A DAY WHEREIN PIRACY AND FREE MUSIC DOWNLOAD IS RAMPANT, YOU REALLY NEED TO BE CHOOSY IN SELECTING WHICH MUSIC TO BUY. I DECIDE ON WHICH MUSIC BY EAR, OF COURSE EACH ONE OF US HAS DIFFERENT TASTE WHEN IT COMES TO MUSIC; ALL IM SAYING IS THAT CARDIOLOGY IS SOMETHING WORTH LISTENING TO.  GOOD CHARLOTTE IS UNLIKE ANY MAINSTREAM BAND, THEY ARENT AS AWARD WINNING OR AS POPULAR AS MOST OF THEM, THEIR MUSIC MIGHT EVEN HAVE THEIR OWN FAN BASE, BUT I CAN DEFINITELY SAY THAT THEY ARE AS GOOD AND AS HARD WORKING AS ANY BAND OUT THERE. IF YOU’VE BEEN A FAN LIKE ME OVER THE YEARS, OR SOMEONE WANTING TO LISTEN TO SOMETHING NEW, CARDIOLOGY IS DEFINITELY WORTH GETTING. IF YOU’VE NEVER HEARD OF GOOD CHARLOTTE’S MUSIC BEFORE, CARDIOLOGY IS THE ALBUM THAT DEFINES THEIR SOUND; IT’S SIMPLE, HONEST AND FUN.

i’ve always mentioned in my previous blog that im cooking up a comic book project thats been long overdue for 4 years already.i started drawing again today and here’s a page from the script which was edited by my good friend,Lance Salvosa.hope you like it.

PANEL 1

CAP: After that day, everything went by so fast. I was practically overtaken by the flow. Thinking ‘bout it now made me realize it happened so quickly I didn’t even have time to catch my breath. Everything was a complete blur. EVERYTHING.

PANEL 2

CAP: I wasn’t ready for her. And she carried on, oblivious to how much everything she did affected ME.

PANEL 3

CAP: Days turned to WEEKS. Weeks turned into months. There wasn’t one moment, one single moment, that wasn’t perfect.

She made everything PERFECT. Like it was the most natural thing in the world. SHE made it all PERFECT.

CAP: Before she came into my life, everything had its distinct place. A pulse. A rhythm. Having her around heightened everything. Time spent apart was hell. And time spent together was never long enough. Maybe this was the kind of happiness they talked about in books and songs and children’s drawings. Maybe it was REAL AFTER ALL.

CAP: Life is a funny truth you struggle to get your head around. I’d seen plenty of people come and go in my life. Not one of them ever quite managed to make everything stand still the way she could.

CAP: Strange. A world made up of over eight billion people …. and it only takes one to reshape the universe.

reset.

2010.A year that i thought would just be like any other year.I know were still on the first month but so far 2010 is getting pretty interesting for me.Well,for startes i had officially ended my blog luiboi.blogspot.com and started out this new one at wordpress.at my job, i got promoted towards the later part of 2009 which makes 2010 also a new start for me since id be taking in new duties and responsibilities compared to what i normally do.this year i also plan on finishing my long overdue comic book project w/c would hopefully see light by the end of this year and if id be able to, be an independent exhibitor at the Komikon.i also plan on “updating” this blog on a weekly basis, no promises though so dont quote me on anything just yet,i dont even know if you’d even see a new post next week.i know its weird that nobody might know of this blog just yet but just in case you happen to stumble upon it today, thanks!hope you’ll have a good read out of this and i know its too late but better late than sorry,HAPPY NEW YEAR!

with that being said that makes this my first post for 2010.this is a “reset” for me because it made me go back to writing.if you happen to have read my old blog,i started it around 5 years ago back in college.i chose to have a blog not only because it serves as an outlet for my thoughts but also a writing practice.back then i just talk about what’s happening in my life,sports,movie reviews,comics,video games and other stuff that i could no longer remember and in this new site i would still continue to write about random things that i find interesting.

this first post isnt as grand as to how you would normally start your site but at least its better than just a plain simple “welcome to the new site”.just as to what the title of this post says, this is my “reset”, a fresh start, it may be simple for now but hopefully it would eventually end up being something “awesome” or may be just like any other random site in this world wide web but then again who knows?
